For the last three years at Mao Amiga one of the dreams or visions for the project has been slowly turning into reality.
The dream – to have a computer course at the project.
For the last three years, Samuel has been taking professional computer classes with the idea of then turning around and teaching people in the community how to use computers. For the last three years we have also been building our own living space for the project. This space is secure, with good doors, windows and a wall built around the whole property to protect it……we are now ready to have computers on our property and teach those who are wanting to learn.
The reality – 7 teenagers, 1 computer.
For the past month Samuel has been teaching computers on Saturdays. This is a great way to engage those teens that are starting to loose interest in just coming to the project to learn the basics (math, Portuguese).A computer course is also needed because so much of our society today revolves around computers. Not knowing how to use a computer leaves people at a great disadvantage because they can not do their school work and in the future they will not be as qualified for jobs as those who have had the opportunity to learn.
At the moment there are seven teens that have been coming faithfully every Saturday. They all crowd around one table where the single laptop sits and Samuel gives the lesson. The next five hours are spent giving each person some time to try out what they have learned.
How you can help!!!
At the moment we are looking for more computers. We are looking for used or new laptops or desktops that we can set up in the project. If you have an old computer that is still in working condition and would like to donate it to the project we would love to hear from you. Please contact Samuel at samukam@yahoo.com
